Fabulous Blog Award

29 January 2009

Thank you soo much to Frances from Happy Because for giving me a Fabulous Blog Award! My first award ever.

I give the award to Frances, Lydia, Susanna-Cole, Knight Cat, Alice Point, Starr, The Stylish Wanderer, and Winnie.

And in honor of the weekend:

My best friend is coming into town, I haven't had school for almost one week due to ice and I have no school work... so I think I'm going to party like The Like. PS- Thank you so much for all of the lovely comments. I cannot explain how excited I am for such great responses about my blog.

Grey Ice Day

28 January 2009

Wow, these past two days have been like nothing I have ever seen. Classes have been cancelled for two days which is unbelievable. The trees are covered in icicles and the ground is an ice skating rink. I've been spending it the way any college kid would, lounging around with friends watching movies, eating pizza and sliding on the icy hills.

This coat is from 3 years ago, and I've been cherishing and preserving it since then. It's so warm, and makes any bland winter outfit stand out. Plus, tartan is back this year, so the preservation was definitely worth it.

PS- These trees are covered in ICE not snow. The last photo is a tree weighed down by ice. I can't imagine how sad it is going to be when the ice melts and the trees are dead. For now I'll enjoy the beauty.

Gloomy Daze

26 January 2009

Classes canceled in the middle of the day due to ice= time to take outfit pictures for me! Typically on Mondays and Wednesdays I will not be able to have outfit posts since I am busy with class and such from 6:30am to 6:30 pm. Today's early release was much appreciated.

So, I am on an highly strict shopping ban until it comes time for my summer wardrobe. Why such a tight constraint? I'm saving for shopping and travel expenses when I study abroad next semester in London. Topshop here I come!

Obviously due the to aforementioned, everything in this blog thus far and in the near future is recycled. I like it this way. Let the creativity ensue.

A few of my favorite street style photos of the moment. What to wear when its madly cold outside? Everything in your closet, of course!

cozy sweater ves

25 January 2009

Oh this sweater vest. There's something about winter that always lets out my inner granny. Well it looks like its time for yet another busy week. Things on my to-do list include a trend forecasting project, working on my study abroad London packet, and go on an adventure with my lovely roommate with our new... Holgas! It should be an experience seeing that I am brand new to the Holga and all of its glory.

Have a fabulous week's beginning loves.

Feeling Girly

24 January 2009

I'm feeling very girly today. I think the only thing missing is a lovely bow for my hair. This look reminds me of Blair Waldorf, just with a slight vintage feel.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

Dots, Dots, Dots

23 January 2009

Thank goodness for the weekend! It is only the second week of school and I happen to be swamped with piles upon piles of work. Many projects coming up soon, but I am eager to start them. I am in a textiles class, which I find it very interesting to learn what fibers makeup the fabric in our clothing. I may be a nerd, but I find the science of it all fascinating.

I am also finally in a sewing lab class, and the first project is making a bag. I already have my sketches ready to go. My teacher is wonderful, plus she is teaching me how to knit! By next winter I'll be a pro. Hopefully.

These pictures were taken by my lovely boyfriend right outside of my class. His help makes my photos so much more interesting. The buildings here are beautiful.

Floral In Two Ways

22 January 2009

I do not know about you, but I love Thursdays. The weekend is near, and the bottled up excitement for it is eager to release. Today's high is 50 degrees which is an exciting mix in the lately arctic weather. So, due to this fabulous weather, I busted out the bright florals. Below is an indoor version of the dress with lace-up booties that has a more classy feel. The other photos show the way I wore it to class, dressed down obviously.

A Winter Look

21 January 2009

What I love about winter: it is so easy to throw together a simple outfit yet still look impeccably dressed. Agnete Hegelund did it just right.

Things I love about this: Tights, dots, cardi, leather. What else can make this combination more perfect?

Bonjour

Hello! Welcome to my new blog, Flashes of Style. I have reasoned with myself that it is a new year and this indeed calls for new ways of life. Blogging is dear to me, and through my new blog I plan to express all my crazy inner thoughts and workings through dress, photos of creative inspiration, and writings. Mainly, I have finally come to a time in my life again where I can be 100% committed to be a blogger. Let the good times roll.

The clothes I wear from day to day certainly express my mood, but words to go along with it wouldn't hurt, would it? Hope you all enjoy.

Below are two semi-new pictures. Wearing: f21 navy coat, plaid shirt; thrifted brown riding boots; target tights; American Apparel gray skirt.
